Here is a game that was designed for a Christmas activity, but can easily be adapted for any time of year. In place of the Christmas stockings, use a container of some kind appropriate to your time or year or holiday. I provided some Old Testament clues, but you can also substitute object clues for other years.

Each team gets a chance to answer a question correctly. If they answer correctly, they can roll the dice and do what’s on the dice.

Have your students reassemble scripture references.

I put the questions into a "batter's box" and the batter had to come up and pick the question. Let them use scriptures, scripture mastery cards, etc. but they only had 30 seconds to answer.

They take turns saying how many words they can "Name that Scripture" in until they don't want to go any lower. Whoever goes lowest gets the clue.

A game that you can do on your first game day and I love it because it forces them to learn the key words and the kids have a ball doing it.  I play with them as well.  It doesn't even matter if they haven't been introduced to the scriptures.

Whoever has the answer from each team runs and sits in the highest numbered chair available.

A version of Pictionary

Here is an easy and fun scripture mastery game.

Based on information from the book "Pioneer Trivia, 1000 and One Questions to Try Your Pioneer Savvy," published by Pioneer Pride, Provo UT.

Pit is a commodities (corn, wheat, rye, etc.) trading game. The object of the game is to collect all the cards of one commodity.

Set up chairs in rows, like a bus. The class scripture chases and only competes against the person sitting beside them.

Once scripture references are found, students get to roll balls earn points.

The scripture reference is read, starting anywhere in the scripture. Once the reference is recognized, a student will run to the chalkboard to write the scripture reference down.

Once the scripture reference is found, the class will chose a number. Students will race to put the numbered item in a square on the floor.

As soon as a team has every member find the scripture, one person from that team can begin to shoot. Point are only given for baskets.

Allow each team the opportunity to solve the Scripture Mastery clue. When they correctly respond, they will have a chance to "Trick or Treat".

The two servers race against each other to find the correct scripture.  First one to find it serves. Then have fun playing volleyball.

Wake your class up with this scripture chase. They'll need to "rescue" their teammates from "prison".

Tape scripture mastery references to your body parts. Give clues, whereupon, students "search you" and give answers based on the location of the correct reference.

This game is non-competitive. On a master sheet, print "Search Warrant" at the top and put blank lines on the page, enough for all students to write their signatures on. Make as many copies as there are students, and write a different scripture mastery clue on each "warrant."

Create several questions for each category. Place the questions in straws. Students take turns picking straws and answering the questions.

The students will be interested in what scripture the question covered because the rule is that if they had the answer before the teacher, that was called a "stump".  When the teacher gets "stumped", the student who wrote the question as well as the student who answers, it gets a piece of candy.

Have your students create SM clues, and I, the teacher, have to find the proper reference.

We do regular scripture chase, individual, not teams.  The last person to get the scripture has to draw a paper and do the stunt.

They scripture chase against each other.  Depending on your time, the winner's name goes back into the bowl and the loser is either wounded (line through name) or becomes a fatality (erased). Keep mixing the names and pulling two at a time. 

A variation on scripture chasing

Use any scripture chase rules, but instead of using their hands, students flip through the pages by blowing through a straw.

This is a game to encourage those students who are trying to memorize the scriptures.

Each team is given a puzzle of a Scripture Mastery Card. Once they put it together, they get to review. Then they will need to write the scripture down on a piece of paper.
